WHY DO WE NEED ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP?

1. General ignorance and apathy are a threat to democracy. The attitudes of those who ‘don’t know’ and ‘don’t care’ have drummed up this need for active citizenship.
2. Complex social issues are over-simplified by the mass media.
3. People have become cynical about being able to influence things, as in “what’s the point?”
4. The feelings of exclusion in some communities have led to alienation and indifference.
